ESG impact and carbon credits

ESG impact

The impact goals for the Murcia plant will be measured from the start of operations and are designed to show how IBERIACHAR contributes directly to decarbonization, agricultural resilience and the protection of the Mediterranean environment.

Impact goals:

  • Quantifiable reduction of CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O emissions from traditional agricultural waste management.
  • Lower wildfire risk by putting pruning residues and forestry biomass to use.
  • Regeneration of degraded soils through biochar application, with measurable benefits for structure, water retention and fertility.
  • Local economic value for farmers and cooperatives in Murcia through stable supply contracts.
  • A verifiable contribution to the European Union's climate and circular economy goals.

These indicators will be built into a transparent ESG framework, aligned with European standards and with plans to submit it to independent verification.

Carbon credits

Puro.earth is an international standard for carbon removal certification, with its own methodology for biochar. Nasdaq holds a majority stake in Puro.earth. IBERIACHAR intends to seek certification of its credits under this standard, building on a model already validated and adapted to the agricultural and forestry context of Murcia.

The project is designed to:

  • Store carbon stably over the long term.
  • Ensure full traceability from the origin of the biomass to the final product.
  • Meet the quality, sustainability and permanence requirements of the applicable certification standard.

In the long term, the project will contribute to the progressive removal of CO₂ through a model that can be replicated and scaled in other parts of the Mediterranean.
